IRON MINE RAILROADS OF NEW JERSEY
by Mike Del Vecchio with Larry Lowenthal

Tri-State wraps up 2016 with a very special guest: author Larry Lowenthal. We credit Lowenthal as being the first to get the history of the railroads and iron mines in one place for a Tri-State audience when he wrote Iron Mine Railroads of Northern New Jersey, published by Tri-State in 1981. Long out-of-print, Tri-State has reprinted the book in its original form this year. Lowenthal's love for the subject and research led him to write or co-write other titles, including Chester's Iron Heyday, Lackawanna Railroad in Northwest New Jersey and Morris County Traction (both with Bill Greenberg), From the Coalfields to the Hudson (the D&H Canal), and Titanic Railroad: New England's Last Great Railroad War (Grand Truck challenge to the New Haven monopoly ca. 1910). It's been many years since Lowenthal visited our area, and we're grateful that he's making the trip just for us. We'll have new copies of Iron Mines available for sale at the meeting ($40 each), and he'll sign any of this books brought by guests. Bill Greenberg will also be in attendance.

The presentation will include a series of images of the New Jersey's iron mine railroads compiled by Mike Del Vecchio that have surfaced since the book was written. While Del Vecchio will narrate, this will be the first time Lowenthal and Greenberg have seen these images, so we're looking forward to their responses.

Join Lowenthal, Greenberg, Del Vecchio and Tri-State in this exclusive viewing of these new, unseen images. As always, attendance is free, and all are welcome!
