The Erie’s New York Division: The Main Line Suffern to Oxford Depot

Join Tri-State on November 12 as local railroad historian Douglas Barberio presents Part 1 of Erie/EL Suffern to Goshen, a detailed look at the Erie Railroad and Erie Lackawanna main line through southern Orange and Rockland Counties, New York.

Part 1 will take us from Suffern to Monroe, with an in-depth look at Hillburn Yard and the Ford Plant. The program will also explore Newburgh Junction, where the Graham Line, also known as the Newburgh Short Cut, diverged from the Main Line.

Douglas Barberio is a founding member of the Middletown & New Jersey Railway Historical Society and currently serves as its archivist and co-editor of the society's quarterly newsletter, The Unionville Flyer, for which he has written numerous articles.

He is the author of The Middletown and Unionville Railroad and The NYO&W Middletown Branch, and has coauthored books covering the NYO&W's Port Jervis and Monticello branches as well as the New York Central's Wallkill Valley Railroad. His particular interests include the railroads of Rockland and Orange Counties, with the Erie and Erie Lackawanna among his major areas of focus.

For nearly thirty years, Doug has presented railroad history programs for historical societies, museums, schools, and special events.

For In-Person Attendees: Our meetings are held at the Gateway Community Resource Center at 513 Birch Street, Boonton, NJ 07005. The center is located in the ground floor of the First Presbyterian Church at the corner of Birch Street and Cornelia Street. An on-site parking lot is available with handicap access. The membership portion of the meeting will start at 7:30 PM, and the presentation should begin around 8:00 PM.

For Virtual Attendees: All of our membership meetings are simulcast on Zoom and our Facebook page. The membership portion of the meeting begins virtually at 7:30 PM.
