The Erie’s New York Division: The Main Line Oxford Depot to Goshen

The journey continues on December 10 as railroad historian Douglas Barberio returns to Tri-State for Part 2 of Erie/EL Suffern to Goshen.
This installment will continue westward through Greycourt, Chester, and Goshen, examining several important railroad junctions, yards, and branch-line connections along the Erie and Erie Lackawanna main line.
At Greycourt, Doug will examine the interchange with the Lehigh & Hudson River Railway as well as the connections with the Newburgh Branch. The program will then continue through Chester to Goshen, with a strong emphasis on the extensive railroad facilities and operations of Goshen Yard.
The presentation will also explore the Pine Island Branch and Montgomery Branch, both of which originated at Goshen. Adding another fascinating layer to operations there, the Lehigh & New England Railroad operated over portions of both branches, with its movements literally cutting through Goshen Yard.
Douglas Barberio is a founding member, archivist, and co-editor of The Unionville Flyer for the Middletown & New Jersey Railway Historical Society. He has authored and coauthored several books on the railroads of the Hudson Valley and southern New York and has presented railroad history programs for nearly thirty years.

For In-Person Attendees: Our meetings are held at the Gateway Community Resource Center at 513 Birch Street, Boonton, NJ 07005. The center is located in the ground floor of the First Presbyterian Church at the corner of Birch Street and Cornelia Street. An on-site parking lot is available with handicap access. The membership portion of the meeting will start at 7:30 PM, and the presentation should begin around 8:00 PM.
