Private Car Across Canada
by Dan McFadden
Tri-State continues 2017 with a slideshow by longtime member Dan McFadden. Dan is a marvelous photographer, and has shared his talents with us many times in the past.
McFadden was given the opportunity of a lifetime in the summer of 1979 to ride Pennsylvania 120, a privately-owned passenger car, across Canada when it was still owned by George Pins.
The trip ran from New York to Montreal, then across Canada with a 3-day side loop up the Northern Alberta and back down the Alberta Resources Railroad (now both part of CN). It ran as part of a VIA train except for the 3-day side excursion, all the time with VIA F-units on the point. Riding the rear platform, a cab ride west from Jasper, and a cab ride in some RDCs topped off McFadden’s trip.
Join McFadden and Tri-State in reliving this wonderful excursion. As always, attendance is free, and all are welcome!
